Biography
Madonna is one of the world’s most iconic singers with millions of her albums sold worldwide. She is also known as the ‘First Lady of Pop’.
Madonna Louise Ciccone was born in August 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. She was the third of six children. During her school days, she attended ballet classes and started giving performances in discotheques.
After graduating from high school, she got a dance scholarship from the University of Michigan. In 1977, she moved to New York to pursue her dance career. After two years of struggle, she formed her first rock band – The Breakfast Club with the musician Dan Gilroy.
1982 was a lucky year for her. She signed a singles deal with Sire Records which was a big hit. As a result, the record company financed an entire album by Madonna. Afterward, her debut album, ‘Madonna’ was recorded which reached number eight on the U.S. albums chart.
After 3 years, she started her film career with a cameo as a club singer in the film ‘Vision Quest’. Then came the ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ movie which featured the dance song ‘Into the Groove’, a big hit in the international music market.
Her other prominent hit albums include the ‘Like a Prayer’ and ‘Open Your Heart’ which was her first collaboration with French artist Jean-Baptiste Mondino.
She is world-famous as the voice of the lower-middle-class American people.
