George Washington was a patriotic man with a deep sense of duty and honor. His father died when he was 11. Due to family problems, he was not in a position to attend college but due to his interest in Mathematics, he started his career as a surveyor. After spending three years in that field, he joined the British military.

George Washington married Martha Dandridge Custis, a widow with two children, Jacky and Patsy. However, George Washington never had any children of his own.

In April 1775, after the battles of Lexington and Concord, he was appointed Major General and Commander-in-Chief of the colonial forces.

He was unanimously elected President of the United States twice.
It is a fact that he is the only President to get 100% of the electoral votes.

He was the only US president who never lived in the White House.
His salary was 2% of the total US budget but it is interesting to note that despite that he had to borrow money to attend his inauguration.
He was so fond of writing letters that he penned more than 18,000 letters in his lifetime.
In 1792, he received the honor of being an honorary citizen of France.
Retirement of George Washington
George Washington refused to serve a third term and settled in Mount Vermont.
Later on, he became a whiskey tycoon and owned the largest distillery in the U.S.
